The NISLEC Partnership is a multi agency body with representatives from NIFRS, PSNI, DOE (Road Safety), DENI, Prince's Trust and RoSPA amongst others and although the project is still in the early planning stages, the partnership hope to be in a position to open the Northern Ireland Safety & Lifeskills Education Centre within the greater Belfast area during the latter half of 2013.
The proposed targeted age group will be young people aged between 10 - 11 and 16 - 24 years of age.

Whilst the Belfast RADAR facility will initially contend with the major causes of unintentional injuries to young people, including road safety, fire safety and home safety, the Centre will also look at other public safety related issues such as online safety, anti-social behaviour, drugs and alcohol awareness etc. across a much wider age range including the growing third age generation within Northern Ireland.

The proposed NI Safety & Lifeskills Education Centre aims to provide a broad range of safety focused educational experiences to visiting schools and youth groups from across the province via full-size interactive demonstrations and the utilisation of a 'simulated learning' environment.

This approach demonstrates everyday hazards in a highly interactive way using active, hands-on experience as a more effective learning method than just relying on classroom teaching alone.

By illustrating dangerous situations and scenarios within a risk free environment, students are offered the opportunity to learn ways in which these major hazards can be prevented, avoided or managed.
