SafeWise | Dorset & Wiltshire
Who are we?
SafeWise is a charity providing realistic and immersive learning experiences to equip visitors with the skills, knowledge and confidence to live active, fulfilling and safer lives in stronger communities. We run centres at Weymouth and Bournemouth, with a third centre opening to serve Swindon and Wiltshire in 2019/20.
We mostly run visits for Key Stages 1 and 2 at the moment. However, we are undergoing a major review in 2017-18 and, with our partners, will begin developing targeted programmes for parents and carers of the under fives, Key Stage 3, young adults, families and tourists, and older people. The first stage of our redevelopment will be the launch of redesigned primary programmes in September 2018 in time for our twentieth birthday celebrations in November.
Following a staffing review, we are working towards each centre having a manager, education officer and co-ordinator. These employees will be supported by a central services team including a full time Chief Executive and part time Managers for Finance, Partnerships, Marketing and Communications, Business and Volunteering.
Our work is overseen by a Main Board of Trustees, which includes members drawn from our supporting partners. We are in the process of developing local boards to provide local oversight and input to each centre.
Any other facilities?
In addition to the safety scenarios, SafeWise Weymouth is a fabulous community centre with a full range of meeting rooms, conference facilities and a cafe. SafeWise Bournemouth also offers the safety village and a meeting room for external hire.
