Junior Citizen @ Safeside
Safeside Junior Citizen is a 2 hours 15 minutes interactive programme for primary school children in years 5 and 6 (10 - 11 year olds).
The programme covers a wide range of safety and citizenship issues relevant to this age group including:
▫ In car safety
▫ Rail safety
▫ Domestic safety
▫ Fire safety
▫ Road safety
▫ Consequences of crime
▫ Restricted goods
▫ Personal safety
▫ Using the bus
▫ Cycling safety
▫ Water safety
▫ What to do in an emergency
Groups of up to 66 children are divided up into smaller groups, each with a trained volunteer Visitor Guide. The Guide will lead them round the safety village scenarios in a tour lasting 1 hour and 40 minutes. Guides use a mix of teaching and learning styles in a realistic environment, enabling all children to learn effectively. The tour concludes with a repeat of the earlier quiz, allowing children to demonstrate their learning.
We can offer adapted programmes for visitor groups with special needs. For further information about the scheme, contact Safeside Education Co-ordinator Rob Hattersley on 0121 380 6429 or email rob.hattersley [at] wmfs.net, or visit www.safeside.org.uk
